WAAI INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

AMY KOPIN - Flint, Michigan
University of Michigan - Full-time undergraduate student
Amy is a student attending the Engineering Program at the University of Michigan. Amy has a very impressive background that includes a goal of becoming a Vehicle Line Executive with a major automotive manufacturer. Amy has had a fascination with automobiles for some time. She has experience working at the GM Proving Grounds, starting as a prototype technician and advancing to Development Engineer. She is the owner/restorer of several classic cars and a member of many car clubs. She is an SAE member, and a member of the Society of Women Engineers, Packard Club. Her goal is to continue to work in the automotive industry, to graduate in mechanical engineering, and to pursue her MBA. She believes there are a shortage of women engineers in high-level executive positions and a shortage of automotive enthusiasts in that role. She wants to represent both.
 
ANIA NEIL - Warwick, New York
Fordham University – Part-time graduate student
Ania is a part-time student attending the MBA program at Fordham University in New York. She is also an employee of BMW of North America in New Jersey. Ania graduated Boston Latin Academy in the top 5% of her class and received an academic scholarship to Boston College where she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management and a Concentration in Marketing. She began her career in the automotive industry working for Toyota Motor Sales USA in their Management Trainee Program in California and progressed through their Parts and Service Marketing areas as a District Manager. Ania currently works as the Market Manager in the Motorcycle Division for BMW. She is a member of the WAAI and former member of the Board for the New York Tri-State Chapter where she handled programs and membership. Ania's goal is to advance to a national marketing management position and then to brand manager.
 
JA HEE HWANG - Rowland Heights, California
Mt. San Antonio College – Part-time undergraduate student
Ja Hee is a part-time student currently attending Mt. San Antonia College in California with plans to transfer to Pepperdine University in the fall of 2003. Since the age of 18, Ja Hee has worked for Tustin Acura where she started as a cashier/receptionist and worked her way up to a contract clerk. She is a frequent volunteer with her church and member of the Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society for two-year colleges. Ja Hee currently has a 3.76 GPA and is highly recommended. She is philosophical in nature and highly supported by all those who work with her. Her intentions are to enjoy the process toward success and be the best she can be by motivation, determination, and patience. To never quit, because fate is in her hands.
 
WAAI/NORTHWOOD SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
 
Sarah De Pape - St. Clair Shores, Michigan
Northwood University – Full-time undergraduate student
Sarah is a 20-year-old junior from St. Clair Shores, Michigan. She will graduate with an associate of arts degree in Automotive Marketing and a bachelor of business administration in Automotive Marketing/Management. Her auto show experiences include being a team member for Volvo in 1999, co-captain of Team Honda in 2000, and captain of Team Subaru in 2001. Sarah is also a member of the women's varsity soccer team at Northwood University. Upon graduation, Sarah will pursue a career in the automotive industry.
 
Michelle Simpson - Orange County, California
Northwood University – Full-time undergraduate student
Michelle is a 21-year-old senior from Orange County, California. She is majoring in Automotive Marketing/Management at Northwood University in Midland, Michigan. Michelle is an enthusiastic and hard-working individual who has a strong passion for the automotive industry. She has been elected to be the Asian Chairperson for the 39th Annual Northwood International Auto Show. The organizational skills she learned as an executive board member have helped her prepare for future positions in the automotive field. Her hard work and dedication is apparent in all arenas of her life. She is vice president for the Delta Mu Delta National Honor’s Society. Her career aspirations include owning and operating a chain of franchise dealerships as well as continuing her education by earning a master’s degree.
